Wedding bowl

This is a segmented bowl I made for my wife’s cousin’s wedding this past June. I made the bowl out of maple and redheart to match the hair colors of the bride (blonde) and groom (red). ┬áThis ended up being one of the largest bowls I’ve turned so far with a maximum diameter of about 9 inches across. There are 4 rings of segments alternating between maple and redheart with each ring offsetting the next. I chose this pattern to look like stairs leading forward and upward to represent their journey ahead together.

The bowl is finished with 3 coats of shellac, 2 coats of water based polyurethane and polished with paste wax.
