This is a segmented bowl I made for my wife’s cousin’s wedding this past June. I made the bowl out of maple and redheart to match the hair colors of the bride (blonde) and groom (red). This ended up being one of the largest bowls I’ve turned so far with a maximum diameter of about 9 inches across. There are 4 rings of segments alternating between maple and redheart with each ring offsetting the next. I chose this pattern to look like stairs leading forward and upward to represent their journey ahead together.
The bowl is finished with 3 coats of shellac, 2 coats of water based polyurethane and polished with paste wax.
